The GHS is a system for standardizing and harmonizing the classification and labelling of chemicals. Chemicals are associated with codes that define their health, physical and environmental hazards.This universal hazard communication system was developed to ensure that employers, employees and consumers are provided with adequate, practical, reliable and comprehensible information on the hazards of chemicals, so that they can take effective preventive and protective measure for their own health and safety.
  The GHS classifications for chemicals associated with products in this database may be viewed by selecting the "Advanced" button on the Chemical Ingredients tables. Since this is a work in progress, GHS classifications may not be shown for all chemical ingredients.

  SVHC is a substance (identified by the European Chemicals Agency) that may have serious and often irreversible effects on human health and the environment. SVHC are defined in Article 57 of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (“the REACH Regulation”) and include substances which are:
  1.  Carcinogenic, Mutagenic or toxic to Reproduction (CMR), meeting the criteria for classification in category 1 or 2 in accordance with Directive 67/548/EEC or in category 1a or 1b in accordance with EC No 1272/2008This directive was recently replaced by the new EU regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
  2.  Persistent, Bioaccumulative and Toxic (PBT) or very Persistent and very Bioaccumulative (vPvB) according to the criteria in Annex XIII of the REACH Regulation, or
  3.  Identified, on a case-by-case basis, from scientific evidence as causing probable serious effects to human health or the environment of an equivalent level of concern as those above (e.g. endocrine disrupters).

      EYE & SKIN CONTACT: Primary irritation to skin, defatting, dermatitis. Absorption thru skin increases exposure. Primary irritation to eyes, redness, tearing, blurred vision. Liquid can cause eye burns & skin irritation. Wash thoroughly after handling.
      INHALATION: Anesthetic. Irritates respiratory tract. Acute overexposure can cause serious nervous system depression, which can cause death. Vapor harmful. Concentrated vapor in confined areas may be fatal. Breathing vapor can cause irritation. Exposure increases Carbon Monoxide level of blood. OSHA required periodic vapor monitoring whenever Methylene Chloride vapors may exceed the action level (12.5 parts per million). Acute overexposure can cause damage to kidneys, blood, nerves, liver & lungs. Repeated exposure over TLV can cause blindness.
      SWALLOWING: Can be fatal or cause blindness if swallowed. Cannot be made non-poisonous. POISON ! Can cause irreversible nervous system damage & death. Harmful or fatal if swallowed. Swallowing can cause abdominal irritation, nausea, vomiting & diarrhea.

    • Chronic health effects

      From MSDS:
      Persons with tumors, severe heart, skin, liver or kidney problems should avoid use.

    • Carcinogenicity

      Potential Cancer Hazard based on tests with laboratory animals using Methylene Chloride. Mammary, lung, liver tumors have been reported in laboratory mice. Overexposure may create cancer risk. Leukemia been reported in humans from Benzene. This product may contain less than 46 ppm of Benzene. Not considered hazardous in such low concentrations. Absorption thru skin may be harmful. Studies with laboratory animals indicate this product can cause damage to fetus.

    • Handling information

      HANDLING:
      Isolate from oxidizers, heat, sparks, electric equipment & open flame. Use only with adequate ventilation. Avoid breathing of vapor or spray mist. Do not get in eyes, on skin or clothing. Wear OSHA Standard goggles or face shield. Consult Safety Equipment Supplier. Wear gloves, apron & footwear impervious to this material. Wash clothing before reuse. Avoid free fall of liquid. Ground containers when transferring. Do not flame cut, saw, drill, braze, or weld. Empty container very hazardous! Continue all label precautions! Drinking alcohol shortly before, during or after use can cause unwanted effects.
      STORAGE:
      Vapors may ignite explosively & spread long distances. Prevent vapor buildup. Put out pilot lights & turn off heaters, electric equipment & other ignition sources during use & until all vapors are gone. When using, loosen bung slowly to relieve pressure. Do not store above 38 C/100 F. Store large amounts in structures made for OSHA Class I B liquids Contact with hot surfaces can produce toxic gases. Keep container tightly closed & upright when not in use to prevent leakage. Contact with hot surfaces can produce toxic gases.

      Recycle / dispose of observing national, regional, state, provincial and local health, safety & pollution laws. If questions exist, contact the appropriate agencies.

    • California Prop. 65 Warning

      This product contains the following chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer & reproductive toxicity: Methylene Chloride, Toluene.

    • First Aid

      EYE CONTACT: For eyes, flush with plenty of water for 15 minutes & get medical attention.
      SKIN CONTACT: In case of contact with skin immediately remove contaminated clothing. Wash thoroughly with soap & water. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
      INHALATION: After high vapor exposure, remove to fresh air. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If breathing has stopped give artificial respiration.
      SWALLOWING: Induce vomiting promptly using physician's instructions or by having patient stick finger down throat. After vomiting has been induced, give two teaspoonfuls of baking soda in a glass of water. CALL A PHYSICIAN. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Have patient lie down & keep warm. Cover eyes to exclude light.
