The GHS is a system for standardizing and harmonizing the classification and labelling of chemicals. Chemicals are associated with codes that define their health, physical and environmental hazards.This universal hazard communication system was developed to ensure that employers, employees and consumers are provided with adequate, practical, reliable and comprehensible information on the hazards of chemicals, so that they can take effective preventive and protective measure for their own health and safety.
  The GHS classifications for chemicals associated with products in this database may be viewed by selecting the "Advanced" button on the Chemical Ingredients tables. Since this is a work in progress, GHS classifications may not be shown for all chemical ingredients.

  SVHC is a substance (identified by the European Chemicals Agency) that may have serious and often irreversible effects on human health and the environment. SVHC are defined in Article 57 of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (“the REACH Regulation”) and include substances which are:
  1.  Carcinogenic, Mutagenic or toxic to Reproduction (CMR), meeting the criteria for classification in category 1 or 2 in accordance with Directive 67/548/EEC or in category 1a or 1b in accordance with EC No 1272/2008This directive was recently replaced by the new EU regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
  2.  Persistent, Bioaccumulative and Toxic (PBT) or very Persistent and very Bioaccumulative (vPvB) according to the criteria in Annex XIII of the REACH Regulation, or
  3.  Identified, on a case-by-case basis, from scientific evidence as causing probable serious effects to human health or the environment of an equivalent level of concern as those above (e.g. endocrine disrupters).

    • Acute health effects

      From MSDS:
      Hazards Identification
      Primary Routes Of Entry: Skin Contact, Inhalation
      Eye contact: May cause eye irritation.
      Skin contact: May irritate skin. Prolonged or repeated contact can result in defatting and drying of the skin which may result in skin irritation and dermatitis (rash). Can be absorbed through the skin.
      Inhalation: Vapor harmful if inhaled. Vapor may irritate nose and upper respiratory tract. Vapor inhalation may affect the brain or nervous system causing dizziness, headache or nausea. Prolonged vapor inhalation may result in severe physical injury.
      Ingestion: This material may be harmful or fatal if swallowed. Aspiration of material into the lungs due to vomiting can cause chemical pneumonitis which can be fatal. If ingested, this product may cause vomiting, diarrhea, and depressed respiration.
      Medical Conditions which May be Aggravated by Exposure: None known.

    • Chronic health effects

      From MSDS:
      Reports have associated permanent brain and nervous system damage with prolonged and repeated occupational overexposure to solvents. Symptoms include: loss of memory, loss of intellectual ability and loss of coordination. Overexposure or misuse of xylene can cause liver, kidney and brain damage as well as cardiac abnormalities and reproductive toxicity.
      

    • Carcinogenicity

      This product contains ethylbenzene. The International Agency for Research of Cancer (IARC) has classified ethylbenzene as a Group 2B carcinogen possibly carcinogenic to humans. While there is inadequate evidence of carcinogenicity in humans, this compound shows sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in animals (IARC, 2001). The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has classified ethylbenzene as a Class D carcinogen (not classifiable as to human carcinogenicity). This is based on the lack of animal bioassays and human studies. The American Conference of
      Governmental Industrial Hygienists has classified ethylbenzene as a Confirmed Animal Carcinogen with Unknown Relevance to Humans. There should be minimal risk when used with ventilation adequate to keep the atmospheric concentration of ethylbenzene below the recommended exposure limit.

    • Handling information

    • Disposal information

      Dispose of according to Federal, State, and Local Standards. Discarded material should be incinerated at a permitted facility. Liquids cannot be disposed of in a landfill. Do not reuse empty container. State and Local regulations/restrictions are complex and may differ from Federal regulations. Responsibility for proper waste disposal is with the owner of the waste.

    • California Prop. 65 Warning

      This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.

    • First Aid

      Eye contact: Immediately flush with large quantities of water until irritation subsides. Get medical attention immediately.
      Skin contact: Wash with soap and water.
      Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Contact a physican immediately. Note: Only trained personnel should give artificial respiration or administer oxygen.
      Ingestion: DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Get medical attention immediately.
